Set a consistent bedtime

  • Create a calm environment- lower lighting and avoiding noise can promote relaxation.

  • Establish a relaxing pre-bedtime routine- a warm bath and bedtime story can make for some nice bonding time with your little one.

  • Avoid overstimulation- a short episode of a calming children’s show is unlikely to be harmful but it’s best to keep it to the beginning of your routine. I personally like CBeebies bedtime stories!

  • Make night-time feeds part of the bedtime routine

  • Establish a sleep cue such as a phrase or dimming of lights

  • Be patient and consistent- keeping to a similar bedtime routine as much as possible ensures little ones feel secure as they know what to expect.

  • Respond to your little one’s needs

  • Gradually encourage independent sleep
